New sports facility under way at City of London Academy
5th October 2025
We are pleased to announce that Ball Hall has commenced an exciting new build at City of London Academy, led by Alastair Clark in his capacity as Project Lead.
This collaboration reinforces our commitment to bringing high-quality, purpose-designed sports facilities to life, and we look forward to sharing further updates as the scheme takes shape.
Groundworks well under way

Following a successful design and planning phase, construction is now in motion. August marked the start of onsite activity, with site set-up and groundworks completed shortly after. Piling has been carried out, trenches excavated, and the new foundations are now forming the backbone of what’s to come.
The new facility will provide a dedicated indoor sports space for students, designed with purpose, built for longevity, and shaped around community sport at its core.
Designed for performance and inclusivity
Every Ball Hall project is tailored to the needs of the people who will use it. At City of London Academy, that means creating a space that supports both curriculum and competitive sport – with the right floor systems, lighting, and acoustics to ensure the hall performs for all activities.
Care has been taken to design a facility that enhances accessibility, optimises natural light, and provides the durability needed for high levels of daily use. The layout also extends consideration beyond the main playing area, with well-planned storage, changing and viewing spaces designed to make the facility practical and welcoming for a wide range of users.
Championing sport and community impact

The project also benefits from the leadership of Jackson Gibbons, Director of Basketball at City of London Academy – Southwark.
Jackson founded the City of London Basketball Academy (CoLA Basketball) in 2013 and has since built it into one of the UK’s most successful youth programmes. Recognised with a British Empire Medal, for his contribution to community sport, he continues to inspire young athletes both on and off the court.
His involvement in this project helps ensure that the new facility not only enhances the school’s sports provision but also provides a lasting base for the Academy’s basketball and community programmes for years to come.
Looking ahead
With foundations now complete, work will continue on preparing the site for the next phase of construction. The coming months will see the structure begin to rise and once built, the new facility will provide a lasting benefit to the Academy- supporting everyday sport, school life, and wider community activity.
We look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses.
