Project Challenges

We have faced a variety of challenges throughout our time developing sports halls. Each project generally presents its own set of complications, sometimes relating to existing structures, surrounding areas or site conditions and in other cases, it’s purely about budget, keeping numerous funding partners happy, or meeting a deadline.

Project Challenges

Queens wood had an existing asbestos clad, steel framed building that was no longer fit for purpose. Its dilapidated condition and inadequate flooring and lighting meant it could no longer be used for sports.

A consulting architect's cost projections significantly exceeded the budget available.

There were existing drainage problems and the ground was waterlogged.

Project Solution

Each unique set of circumstances, is thought about and considered, in depth, by Ball Hall at the outset of the project. We bring all of our previous experience and expertise to the fore and try where possible, to apply a combination of creative and pragmatic thinking to problem solve in each case.

Project Solutions

We retained the existing steel frame and floor slab and extending out from it and used tried and tested, high quality but affordable materials. A clever combination of glazing, brickwork and cladding, meant the elevation was simple but impressive in design.

Ball Hall Added Value

With all the difficulties of a project considered upfront and contingency built in for unforeseen events or conditions, Ball Hall deliver outstanding buildings for sport. A Ball Hall Sports Hall often exceeds expectation and consistently becomes a flag waving celebration for the organisation, with many further benefits that materialise over time.

Ball Hall Added Value

We developed an impressive sports hall, to the highest specification for a fraction of the cost quoted by the architect.

"Our existing sports hall was a large building with two full indoor tennis courts, but it was asbestos clad, leaked and was unheated. Our initial attempts at procuring a new sports hall, through an architect-led approach, resulted in a grand scheme costing several millions of pounds and over our budget. We were delighted to find Ball Hall who had the vision and foresight to retain the steel frame and slab of the existing building and provide a fantastic multi-use venue but for a fraction of the cost. The project ran smoothly from start to finish with everyone working in a collaborative way."
